For as long as I can remember I’ve loved spending time in the great outdoors. Over the years I’ve been blessed with big bucks, stingers full of fish, and bags full of birds, but since becoming a father my favorite aspect of hunting and fishing has shifted from the thrill of the chase to the excitement of sharing the tradition. I've taken every opportunity to share this tradition with my kids. I bought them camo shirts before they were born, hunting boots before they could walk, and fishing poles before they could talk. I took them deer hunting in diapers and have put more worms and grasshoppers on hooks then you can imagine. I even searched the world over for children’s books on the subject but much to my disappointment I found them to be few and far between.
The absence of these stories disappointed me for several reasons, but primarily because I believe our modern culture fails to appreciate the need for the next generation of outdoorsman, the need for men and women who are independent, resourceful, responsible, respectful, patient, hardworking and mindful stewards of wildlife and habitat alike. It was this disappointment that fueled my desire to write my own stories; stories purposefully designed to cultivate the traits of an outdoorsman all the while capturing the attention of the child audience and adult reader.
My first release is The Hunt for Ol’ Drop Tine; I would be honored if you would share it with the next generation outdoorsman in your world.
An impressionist oil painter and instructor, V.... paints on location all across America. “My favorite subjects are coastlands, wild places and the countryside around America's small farms."
